Onions were distributed this week to the forty Club members for this year’s competition. The Onion Show will take place in September at the Duke of Wellington Inn, Danby and the judge will as last year be Graham Watson of Ainthorpe.
The newly refurbished bedroom known as ‘Bilsdale’ was occupied by Bed and Breakfast guests for the first time at the end of February.
The Danby Music Group, an informal collection of keen local musicians, met last Thursday at the Duke of Wellington Inn for an evening playing a miscellany of folk pieces from around the globe.
“Jet Black” from the Whitby Brewery is our current guest ale.
At 4.5% ABV this is “a finely balanced porter packed with liquorice, coffee and sweet toffee. A delicious creamy mouth feel and generous use of roasted barley and chocolate malt makes drinking Jet Black porter a luxurious experience”. It sounds and tastes great.
The Duke of Wellington Inn hosted a very successful joint meet of the Goathland and Glaisdale Hunts on the first Saturday of the New Year. A large field met on the village green opposite the Inn and members of the two hunts and the many gathered followers were liberally served with complimentary glasses of port, brandy and whisky from the Inn’s cellars.
