North Yorkshire Bed and Breakfast

Located in the village of Danby at the heart of the North York Moors and close to the historic Whitby coast, the Duke of Wellington Inn offers guests comfortable good North Yorkshire Bed and Breakfast accommodation amongst some of the country’s most beautiful scenery.

The Duke of Wellington Inn overlooks the village green in Danby and is thought by many to be the most attractive B&B in the North York Moors National Park.

A Brief History

Dating back beyond 1765 the Inn was formerly known as the Red Briar and later the Lord Wellington. It has grown over the centuries to encompass a small holding and cottages and was used as a recruiting post by local regiments during the Napoleonic War. A cast iron plaque of the famous first duke was unearthed during restoration work and can be seen above the fireplace in our main bar.

The Duke of Wellington Inn Today

Whilst much has been done over the years to create comfortable good value accommodation for our guests the character of the Inn has been preserved. A home to two darts teams, and host to many competitive dominoes matches, the local Quoits team and two meets a year of the Glaisdale Hunt, the Duke of Wellington remains a traditional Yorkshire Inn.

Come and stay at the Duke of Wellington Inn, a good base for exploring North Yorkshire, the North York Moors and Whitby and enjoy the best bed and breakfast accommodation in Danby.
